Pancake ice forms along the shores of Lake Huron when temperatures are just below freezing and there's a bit of wave action. It can appear when a thin layer of slush covers the water, or during high winds that break up existing ice. These little floating discs often move around quickly and are only visible for a short time. They’re one of my favourite winter sights.
