While hiking across the Saugeen Peninsula, I often mark interesting rocks, trees, or geological formations on my phone. My Google Maps is full of pins with names like “Cool Tree,” “Good Astro Spot North,” or “Open Field with Tree.” This particular location was labeled “Incredible View Overhanging Point Aurora”. When my friend Dean said he was coming up to camp for the weekend—and that the night looked promising for the aurora—I jumped out of bed, despite being very sick, and hiked with him to this spot I’d been thinking about for years. I am really grateful that I did.
