I had dreamed of capturing this photo for years, always waiting for the perfect moment. I wanted the surrounding fields to flood so the stars could reflect in the still water, and hadn’t quite found the perfect moment. One evening, driving home from work, I realized that tonight was the night. Later that evening I found myself walking along the roadside, listening to the whoosh of bats overhead and the chatter of geese swimming in the fields to take the shot. Just weeks later, this beautiful tree was lost in the severe ice storm that swept through much of Ontario in early 2025. I'm so grateful I got to witness and photograph it before it was gone.
